TECHNOLOGY TURNAROUND

While operating as the acting Chief Executive Officer in a systems integrator in the computer industry, one of the subsidiaries was experiencing a major problem with an installation of a warehouse “picking” system in Canada.

The product had never experienced the very dry atmospheric environment of a Canadian winter and were experiencing severe problems with electrostatic discharge. The system was needing to be reset every few minutes during commissioning.

In association with the subsidiary’s management and development teams, Dr Westlake was able to use his engineering troubleshooting skills to identify the source of the problem and re-design and re-manufacture a new communications protocol. This was shipped to the customer and re-commissioned with only a 1-month delay. The warehouse was able to use this high-productivity system in time for the Christmas rush.
